Episode #99: Literary Criticism and Harry Potter

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

Hey everyone! In this week’s episode, we had on two LOVELY guests who we met at Portus: Nikki and Darcy. They are a lot smarter than we are and actually have an educational background in Literature, so we picked their brains a little on the different aspects of literary criticism and how they relate to Harry Potter. Better get your thinking caps on because this is an episode for intelligent folks (like yourselves) and we think you’ll enjoy it!

We also briefly (notice how the word is both bold and italicized) spoke about the new Harry Potter Exhibition….well mostly about our failure to take anyone up on the offer of preview tickets. And we asked for some advice and help in planning a special party!

So please enjoy this episode and as usual we look forward to hearing your comments, thoughts, and suggestions!

Episode #92: New Half Blood Prince Trailer

Sunday, October 26th, 2008

It was a shock to everyone when the newest international Teaser Trailer for Half Blood Prince leaked online this morning. Now that we have gotten over the initial shock of the unexpected gift, we have had sometime to look at and analyze the trailer. In this week’s episode Greg and I discussed our initial thoughts and impressions about this newest trailer. We don’t see eye to eye on everything- especially Michael Gambon as Dumbledore. However, there is a lot that we do agree on about this trailer. We look forward to hearing your impressions of both the trailer and our analysis of it.

As we discussed on the show, please check out our friend Amber’s Young Adult Literature Podcast at: http://yalitreview.libsyn.com/ also make sure to check out our favorite web show: Jake and Amir.

HPProgs Episode #91: Wizard Rock and YouTube Contest Winner

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

Hey everybody!  We’re back for another exciting episode of HPProgs!

We don’t have much to talk about this week.  It’s October which means we have to announce the winner of our September Beedle the Bard YouTube contest.  And we do, in the podcast.  So take a listen!  Also, we were at the New York City Wizard Rock Festival (which, after typing that out, I now know why everyone referred to as NYCWRF).  It was awesome, we got to hear lots of amazing bands, and meet lots of amazing people.  If you were there, let us know what you thought of it!

And that’s about it!  Stay tuned we’ve got some good stuff coming in the next few weeks.  And make sure to check out HPProgs on YouTube, and enter the Beedle the Bard YouTube contest, if you haven’t alraedy (or even if you have, enter again!).  You could win a copy of the deluxe edition of the new Beedle the Bard book coming out in December.

Where’s Episode 73?

Monday, March 17th, 2008

I don’t know.

That was a lie.

I do know. But I don’t want to tell you.

Fine, I’ll tell you.  It hasn’t been recorded yet. Greg and Penny the Harry Potter Procrastinators, I mean Prognosticators, pushed off recording until tonight (Monday evening).  We were going to record but I (Penny) starting to get either a migraine or the worst ever sinus headache so the recording needs to be pushed off. We will hopefully be able to record tomorrow evening.

The good news is that if you haven’t sent in any voicemails you can do that tonight or tomorrow (you can call  1-206-337-0357 in the U.S. or 07092899490 in the UK or you can send an mp3 comment into harrypotterprogs at yahoo dot com).

Also take a listen to the March Portus Previews. They (along with Mugglecast) did an EXCELLENT interview with Jim Dale, the man I plan on marrying if Greg ever leaves me.  Did I just say that out loud?  Woops. Ignore the rambling, I have a headache.  Just to remind you Jim Dale *will* be at Portus 2008 and so will we, so we’d love you to come so we can all hang out together and fangirl scream for “Harreeeeee!”.

Status of Episode 72

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

Hey everyone. We are a bit late on episode 72, we plan on putting it up tomorrow evening (March 10). Just to give you a preview, we are taking a break from Patterns in Potter this week. We interviewed Dr. Jeffrey Rudski about Harry Potter Addiction. The interview was quite eye-opening.   The rest of the episode will be voicemail and comment full.  Stay tuned….

UPDATE: This is Penny. The episode is finished. I even wrote up the episode blurb with the news. The problem is that I am trying to edit it on this new computer (and you will have a good laugh when you listen to the episode and hear me RAVE about the computer) and I am deleting things right and left because honestly, GarageBand is one of the suckiest programs to edit things in. Ever. I am so frustrated that I need to give it a rest. Unfortunately for you that means that the episode will probably not be up until tomorrow evening. I really do apologize.

UPDATE 2: This is Penny again.  I am writing from the insane asylum.  That is where they put me after I left the Apple Store tonight after being there for an hour and a half and actually stumping the “geniuses” there who teach the 1:1 classes. (But I do have to give a shout-out to Ryan at the Apple Store, thanks for your time and patience.) You would think that I haven’t been editing podcasts for a year and a half.  You would think this was the first time I’ve done this.    I am unbelievably frustrated and for the second night in a row unfortunately I have to stop before I give you anything- alas, I have work tomorrow and if I keep on dealing with the mess of editing this, I will never get to bed and the patients who are already dealing with traumatic brain injuries will be that much more damaged when I fall asleep on their beds.  So, once again, please bear with me. I will do my best to continue the editing process when I get home from work tomorrow. Thank you so much for your understanding.

Episode #62: The First HPProgs Call-in Show

Sunday, December 16th, 2007

Late last night, via BlogTalkRadio, we had the first ever HPProgs live call-in show.  We were really nervous on a number of accounts: that no one would be listening, that no one would call in, and that it would be difficult.  But, in the end, thanks to all you guys, it went really well!  There was some great discussion, great ideas and we really hope to do it again soon.  Thank you so much to everyone who called in, listened or joined us in the chat room (except for those two guys at the end…whatever).

You can listen to the call-in show with the player below, or download it directly as an mp3.

Episode #61: The Order of the Phoenix DVD Show

Friday, December 14th, 2007

So…we preordered a copy of the Order of the Phoenix DVD, but it didn’t arrive yet…so, we borrowed a copy so that we could watch the extra features and review them for the podcast but…there were no extras on the copy we borrowed….so instead we just watch a few scenes and offer our comments.  Hope you like it.

Mark you calendars: the first ever HPProgs call-in show is set to kick off at 11PM EST this Saturday, December 15.  Call in and talk to us about whatever you like!  It’s going to be awesome.  In case you’re too shy (or chicken) to verbally engage us, we’re pretty sure you can listen live.  The call in number is 646.595.4635, check out the call-in page for more details.

Looking for the perfect holiday present for a Harry Potter fan?  Why stuff their stockings with a Harry Potter t-shirt from the HPProgs T-shirt store.  It’ll guaruntee a Happy Christmas.

Vote for HPProgs for Best Podcast

Friday, November 2nd, 2007

Harry Potter Prognostications has been selected as a finalist for Best Podcast in the 2007 Weblog Awards!  If you have a moment, head on over and vote for your favorite podcast (hopefully, that’s us ;) ).  You can vote once every 24 hours and voting ends next thursday.  Thanks, we really do appreciate it!

UPDATE (11/7): One of our competitors wrote this One of our competitors wrote this as a single blog post: “My goal is to beat the Harry Potter Podcast.”

He then wrote in another post, “This message has been brought to you by ‘the (name of his podcast) is Cooler than Harry Potter Brigade.’”

I’ll give you a hint, we are already ahead of this guy, but for the sake of all that is good about Harry Potter (love, tolerance, Aberforth’s goat obsession)- please vote for us.
