Beedle the Bard Published Because of Fan Demand

Reuters is reporting that JK Rowling published “The Tales of Beedle the Bard” (which is available to purchase today) because of fan demand.

“The idea actually came from you, by which I mean Harry Potter fans,” Rowling told around 200 primary school children gathered at Edinburgh’s Parliament Hall for a tea party that officially launched Beedle the Bard.
“There was quite a lot of high feeling from Harry Potter fans that only someone who had two million pounds could afford to read the book. I thought ‘fair point’, so I thought ‘I’ll publish it and then the charity can have that money too’.”

I wonder if we can get her to publish an eighth Harry Potter book too?!?

Forget fairy tales and encycloedias, let’s start a petition for Marauders’ books! That would just make my life super saturated with completedness…

I’m glad Jo loves the fans enough to publish the Tales, I would have understood if she wanted it to be special for the original owners. But they’re happy with it, and I’m happy wit the book, so everyone wins!

I purchased both the regular book and the deluxe edition (after saving up for it), and it is well worth it. Even though I had read transcripts of the stories several months ago, the pictures and commentaries after the stories were delightful. The deluxe edition comes in a large, book shaped box, with the actual ‘Beedle’ book tucked inside a velvet pouch that has JK’s signature stitched on the outside. It also has an envelope with several of the book pictures on cardstock. The book itself is smaller that the regular book, and has silver ornamental objects on the cover (including a silver skull). So Cool! It will be a treasured heirloom in our family, and put in a place of honor.

I think it would be more likely that we would convince Rowling to write prequels than an 8th book.
