Happily Not Fooling Anyone

I think we may be one of the only HP sites that isn’t pulling an April Fool’sDay  joketoday.

To thank us for that, since it is a new month, please vote for us on Podcast Alley,  and we will send each person who votes a brand new iPod Nano.

  3. Penny Says:

    It was me.

Potters number one fan: When did you send it. I am not sure.

  4. Aaron Says:

I was expecting you to say this weeks episode will be early.

  5. Greg Says:

This is penny but yeah, that would have been a good April Fool’s day joke. luckily we are not into that.

  6. Rosie Says:

I can’t wait for the Dumbledore impression, so maybe you should do the episode early this week.

  7. Megan Says:

This in no way applies to today’s post. But, I wanted to comment on a mistake I have heard recurring in several of the episodes. Greg should read Machiavelli’s Discourses because Machiavelli is being grossly misrepresented. The Prince applies only to monarchies/dictatorships and was written to give a family power in an Italy that was generally a mess. Machiavelli then wrote his Discourses to show the family that once they got power using the methods of The Prince they should implement a republic, as outlined and argued for in Discourses. Machiavelli is considered by experts to be one of the greatest proponents of republicanism/democracy. The Founding Fathers of the United States even believed in this, and Jefferson was a big fan of Machiavelli because of the Discourses. It’s an amazing read and if you want to better understand your own government, Machiavelli, The Prince, and Harry Potter generally you should definitely read it.

  8. Rosie Says:

Wow. I should read them then, because Greg has been misleading me.

  9. Greg Says:

How did I mislead? Did I say he was a fascist?

  10. leticia Says:

How A Book Series Changed My Way of Thinking By Manuel Aguero

Hello my name is Manuel Carlos Aguero. I was born in New Jersey on July 15 1990. I was born prematurely and do to a stupid Doctors error, I am now blind in my right eye and have some vision in my left. Despite my lack of vision, I try to persevere in everything I attempt to do. By the age of 3, I was firmly behind my families favorite Baseball team The New York Yankees. As I grew older I became more attuned with my vision loss. I was able to adapt nicely with my situation. I am now 17 years of age and live in Walnutport Pennsylvania. I currently attend Northampton area High School. As the title of this narrative suggests however, it is based on a book series that has spawned my love for reading and writing in a way I could never have dreamed of.

This story takes place a long time ago in a galaxy far far away. Okay that’s just my Star Wars fan in me coming out! This story does start however a long time ago around 10 or 11 years. Up until I was 8 years old, I never loved reading, or writing for that matter. In school when we read books I just didn’t want to read. I’m not sure why, I new how to read in Braille and I could listen to audio books, but books just didn’t interest me. No book I picked appealed to me. Even the most popular book series at the time written by R. L Stine didn’t have any affect on me. I never thought I would ever find something that I would love to read or write about. All this changed however, on one summers night at a borders bookstore in New Jersey.

I was out with my mom looking for a book for her of coarse. The bookstore we always went to was never packed with people. As we pulled up to the bookstore we noticed that there was a lot of cars in the parking lot. Maybe people are just parking here and walking somewhere else that’s what I thought to my self as we got out of the car. We could not enter the bookstore, not because it was closed, but because there was the longest line to get in I had ever seen in my life. The line must have been 300 people deep and I’m not kidding you! We were at the back of the line, at first we were going to forget my moms book and just leave, but we figured we would stay and see what was going on. Lucky we did, because if we had not, I wouldn’t be sitting here writing this story out now. If we had not, I would have never come across the series that changed me for ever. If we had not, I would have never found out how much enjoyment reading can be with a great book. So I guess you can say it was a good thing we stepped into that bookstore an hour later on that summers night 11 years ago.

When we finally stepped into the store, we saw what was going on. Every man woman and child who were in that never ending line, had all picked up a copy of a book called Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Something about that title just attracted me in a way that no other book had. I can not relay to you the strange feeling I had as I stood in that store 11 years ago. I just new in my heart that I had to read this book. I told my mom this, of coarse she was very glad too by the book for me. This would be the first time in my life at the age of eight that I would willingly buy a book for myself to read. My mom was very interested in the book herself, and if 300 men and women would stand on line to buy it, it must be good. We bought two copies, one in print and one on audio. When we got home, I said to my mom that I would go and listen to it and see if I like it. Six hours later I came out of my room, having just finished a book that was 309 pages long. Not only was it the longest book I had ever read in my life, but it was the greatest book that I had ever read. I was not the only one who was under the spell in my house, my mom was caught up in it perhaps even more then I, “. For the first time in my life I had found a book that I could enjoy. From the very first page to the very last I was caught hook line and sinker. Me and my mom got the whole family reading the book and everyone enjoyed it immensely.

We had no idea that there was going to be another book after that. When we found out that there was going to be seven books about the magical world in which Harry and his friends inhabited we were elated! Looking back almost 8 months now since the release of book seven, I feel that my whole perception on reading and writing have been changed by this unbelievable series. It was a emotional rollercoaster when reading these novels. You felt as if you were connected with the characters in a way one could never dream of being. You felt as if you new Harry, Ron and Hermione. You hated the dark lord Voldemort with a passion just like Harry. The novels are so well written that when a character you came to love was killed, you openly wept for them because that is how much you felt as though you new the character. I am not ashamed to say that I cried when my favorite character was killed. I had just lost my Grandmother when I read Order of the Phoenix. Whom ever is reading this at this moment and has read Phoenix no what I am talking about. I could relate with Harry’s grief for this character because I had just lost someone close to me. Perhaps that is why the books mean so much to me, because I could relate with the characters and no how they felt at times like that.

Although the series is over after 11 long years, I will never forget the sadness, joy and excitement it gave to me. If you are reading this, and have read the series, you will know exactly the feelings I’m sharing with you now, because you will have experienced the same emotional tugs this series has afforded you. And if you have not read them, or if you think they are not the kind of books you would enjoy, I hope after reading this, you will give the series another try because you are missing out on a magical ride that you will never forget as long as you live. There may be other books to come,, however there will only be one series that will never be forgotten, and that will live on for ever and ever. for those who have read them, they will have memories to last them a lifetime, and for those who are about to read them because of this essay, you are about to enjoy a long and emotional ride that will have you laughing, crying, and everything in between. the series may be over, but to those like me who love they will never be forgotten.

  12. Aaron Says:

So does this mean you are a potter addict? Speaking of which my wife just got 2 clown fish that she named Fred and George because she can’t tell them apart.

  13. Rosie Says:

I’ve always wanted fish, to name after Potter characters. I considered children, or other pets, but they are harder to take care of. So fish it will be.
