This is really interesting because I never thought of emotions being the main theme for PoA. I was thinking of dread being the theme, if you can even call it a “theme.” Emotions I always associated with OoTP. What do you guys say is the theme of OoTP?

Aaron, Barty Crouch, Sr. is murdered before Cedric in GoF, but I think it’s accurate to say that Cedric’s is the first death we really experience as readers, and I think that’s quite purposeful on Rowling’s part. The end of GoF is where Rowling starts to tear down her stock fairy tale hero, and watching a death is the first key step in having that happen.

Greg and Penny, interesting stuff in this one, particularly with the reflections on animals; I’m looking forward to the rest of the PoA discussion. I think “scapegoating” would work well as an alternative organizing theme for PoA, a theme which sort of carries throughout the rest of the series. I’m planning to do a podcast on scapegoating in PoA soon.

I just woke up and had a Harry Potter question in my head. So I figured I’d ask the experts. So far the patterns series has discussed 2.5 books. In these 1st three books I cannot remember anyone being killed. Not talked about in passive sense but an actual murder death. I guess Quirriel in book one disintergrated but other than that has anyone died in the story to this point? Is Cedrick the first that we see murdered at the end of GOF or am I missing something?

Sounds good to me. I have Skype, so recording wouldn’t be a problem, though I would have to learn how to record with another person. I’m used to using Audacity, so it would be something new for me. I’m up for it if Rosie is.

Hey Penny and Greg, I have a question, more of an inquiry if you will. You two (brilliant!) podcasters continue saying “If you think Harry Potter is just for kids, think again!” Well, you’re adults, and you just interviewed an adult, so why don’t you interview a kid? I’m 14 years old, I have a mic for my laptop, I’ve been considering starting a podcast of my own, but I’d really like to join in on one first. So while I get a feel for podcasting, you guys can interview a Harry Potter fanatic who’s actually a kid and not an adult. I’d really like to help and I believe that I could totally benefit HP Progs.

if I am not mistaken in the interview of Jo by the podcasters who-must-not-be-named Jo said that she had considered Horcrii as the plural of Horcrux but since there was already Animgi she went for Horcruxes instead
