Deathly Hallows Ships From Amazon
In my email this morning:
Greetings from Amazon.com.
We thought you would like to know that we are preparing your items for
shipment.
!!!
A close friend of ours actually got his copy already (he had ordered online from the place that’s in the news that shipped early); he wrote about it on his blog (NO SPOILERS in his post, just a rundown of the legal brouhaha). Apparently, Scholastic is offereing $50 to those who received the books to wait until Saturday to read it.
As a warning, there are major spoilers out there, even the mainstream media, such as the NY Times and Baltimore Sun, are getting in on ruining the book for everyone, which is a shame. HPProgs, of course, will remain spoiler-free.

Oh my goodness, a friend…well a poop head I know, actually sent me a copy of that article from the Baltimore Sun, fortunately, I didn’t touch it!! Thank goodness, I am trying my best to stay away from spoilers.
Oooh, did you know that guy? I did hear about that ummm bookstore that is now facing a serious legal issues with Scholastic.
Just knowing how much effort was being put into securing the books and how I want to enjoy it when the time finally comes, I feel bad that there have been leaks, strangely I know if I was to have received my copy before hand, it would be locked up somewhere until after the official release time.

I logged into Amazon to see if there was a UPS tracking number in hopes of posting here where my book currently sits, alas no tracking number.
I so do not want to be spoiled that I actually skip the table of contents. does anyone else do that? In HBP I would have been bummed if I saw the chapter title Phoenix Lament before I came across it in the book.
I am 36, with a wife and 2 children (4 and 2). They have been drilled all week on what is going to happen Saturday. I am daddy until the brown truck comes. Then I am the guy in the basement that is only going to come out to use the bathroom and get diet coke.
My wife got a UPS yesterday. When I got home from work my daughter says, “don’t be sad, the brown guy (ups guy) didn’t bring Harry Potter Azkaban (her favorite title), so can we go to the pool?”
July 19th, 2007 at 12:47 pm
Oh, I totally skip the chapter titles. If I’d seen “The White Tomb,” forget it! I would have been hyperventilating the entire time.
My sister and I already have the different areas of the house staked out. I get the attic and living room, she gets the den and the basement.
We’re not crazy. We’re cool.

OMG. When I heard about the people who got there books early, I was very upset. Scholastic should and will sue Levy Home Entertainment. I was very upset, and have stood clear of all websites except here and Veritaserum.com, which have a spoiler free policy until the book comes out. I am still upset about that.
Then today, as I was browsing the homepage of Veritaserum, I saw the news article they wrote about how the New York Times had gotten an early copy and did that spoiler full review of the book. I basically flew into a rage and ranted about how horrible that was and how Scholastic should sue the New York times for 5mil. I haven’t been spoiled with genuine spoilers, but, I’m sure I will be by the time of the release. I have stayed clear of TV also.
I’m glad to hear you got an e-mail. I never use websites to ship my books. I’d rather go get it from a release party at Barnes and Nobel. When Order of the Phoenix came out, I ordered from Amazon. Well, It never came. I sent angry, disappointed letters and e-mails to Amazon, and they responded with something like, ‘Sorry, your book was lost in the mail, we will send you another’ I responded with ‘no thank-you, but I don’t trust you anymore’ and bought it from Barnes and Noble. With Half-Blood Prince, I preordered from Borders, and it didn’t get here until nearly midnight after it came out. I was a nervous wreck all day and I didn’t pay attention to anything and I didn’t relize I was going down the stairs until I fell and had to go to the hospital and get stitches in my forhead and foot.
I’ve had a few bad experiances with that. So, I’m going to get it from Barnes and Nobel at midnight Friday.

I know I said I was signing off after last night but I’m too angry. I’ve sent two angry letters to the NY Times and have been urging my friends to do the same. We should all actively protest and boycott the news outlets who are offering “reviews” before the book has been published. (By the way, Leaky Cauldron has an excellent form letter you can use at: http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/2007/7/19/new-york-times-posts-spoilers-call-for-letters) As far as I know, no one was issued an advanced copy for reviewing purposes. The only reason publishers, record companies and movie studios do those types of things is to generate hype for their product prior to its release. As we all know, more hype is the last thing this book needs and the publishers know that. I’m totally disgusted that these “respectable newspapers” obtained copies of the book (presumably illegally) in order to ride Jo’s coat tails and generate some numbers for their respective publications. I hope Jo sues them so vigorously that their great grandkids will still be paying for these mistakes while their ancestors rot in hell.
I think this is the angriest post I’ve ever written and I apologize if it seems harsh but when the “legitimate news organizations” jump on the spoiler bandwagon I just can’t take it. Grrrrrr!
July 19th, 2007 at 2:13 pm
I’m not even watching the news. In the morning I usually have either Fox & Friends or the Today Show on (and I had intended to make sure I watched the Today Show tomorrow because I figured they’d have some coverage of what’s going on in NY) — but yesterday I almost heard something that sounded like it was going to be a spoiler (I shouted NO NO and grabbed the remote to hit Mute, so I didn’t hear it and don’t know if it was). Then I was reading some news on the internet and almost got spoiled so I guess I’ll have to steer clear of everything except the few Harry Potter sites I know won’t have spoilers. I’m almost afraid to go to the bookstore because I’m afraid someone will blurt out what they read in the NY Times.
But what I came here to post was — how can Scholastic give $50 to people who don’t read it till Saturday? How can they authenticate that they didn’t read it? I suppose the only way would be for a person to show the unopened box. But what — drive to New York city to show it to a Scholastic employee?
I continue to say, if I got the book early, I’d lock myself in my room and read it. I wouldn’t say anything to anyone, but I would have to be offered quite a lot to give it back. We were at WalMart last night and we peeked into the book dept. just in case, to see if maybe they had the book out early by accident. Then at Target, they had a nice display of all of the books, both hardcovers and paperbacks (walmart just had paperbacks) and the color of PoA just slightly reminded me of the color of the DH cover so I did a double take. And my kids were asking what I would have done if they had it, and I said I’d go to the register and put it down on the conveyor belt and grab a couple of pkgs of candy or something else and put it on top to sort of camouflage it, and hope they sold it to me. And then I’d walk out to the car and scream loudly in the parking lot and then get in the car and start reading.
But, sadly, nothing like that happened so I’m going tomorrow morning to pick up my wristband at B&N, then going back at 7 p.m. for the party. I still can’t believe it’s tomorrow already.
July 19th, 2007 at 3:12 pm
As if I wasn’t enough of an emotional wreck as it is with the book coming out tomorrow night and re-reading HBP, all this stuff has to happen. I’m so distressed! I’ve completely withdrawn from the online Potterverse, except for your website of course, and I’m seriously starting to have separation problems.
And then of course, one of my friends made a special phone call to me the other day sincerely trying to tell me about DH and was not getting the fact that I do NOT want to know! I haven’t spoken for like two days lol, and Spenser and I have decided that we’re bringing our iPods to B&N to drown out jerks who may want to ruin it, and we’re going to set ground rules for my nice friend who posted stuff in her status on facebook… grr
And I refuse to watch the news now. Yesterday, they showed a pic of the first page of the epilogue! Luckily i spazzed when the article came on and threw my hands in front of my face lol.
But thank you guys so so much for staying spoiler free! I dont know what I’d do if I was too afraid to get on here as well!
July 19th, 2007 at 3:26 pm
I guess we all have to understand that this is almost IT and I comment Scholastics and the many other distributors and of course HPPROGS for remaining spoiler free and giving the fans an opportunity to enjoy this final journey on our own.
I certainly agree that any of us that are going to a release party should make sure to have headphones and stuff so we can drown out any potential damaging information!!
July 19th, 2007 at 3:45 pm
I heard about the NY Times review. I’m a little upset that they felt the need to do that.
I’m just trying to avoid the spoilers out there until Friday at five, when I can sign off the net and finally feel safe. Until then I’m sticking to the websites that have promised not to spoil the book, or websites totally unrelated to Harry Potter and therefore will not post any harry potter news. Luckly NPR has vowed to not report spoilers so I’m not totally out of the news loop. I am tempted to donate for a tote bag now *grin* Besides that I’m not afraid of the ending being spoiled for me. I’ve threaten my b/f to not share the ending of the book as he’s read the ending from those pictures that are on the bit torrent sites. I do his laundry and he doesn’t want pink underwear :).
July 19th, 2007 at 5:57 pm
Now this is a complete mess. It’s almost impossible to not stumble on a spoiler everyday…. I swear I’m gonna sleep till Saturday morning!!!
July 19th, 2007 at 6:17 pm
ugh! there’s a myspace harry potter group that has this member who posts nothing but spoliers! I didn’t read any of them but now he’s posting topics of who dies and such.
It is so annoying.
I’m just glad that this site is spoiler free.
=]
July 19th, 2007 at 6:23 pm
I’m not talking to anybody in person. At all. My friends are pissed. Oh well. And I also walk around with my iPod in my ears. LOL. I’m about to send my angry letter to the New York times. grr…I’m gonna go to Barnes and Noble in the morning, get my wristband, then come back at seven for the party. Then I’ll get my book, read it cover to cover all night and most of the day. Then I’ll take a nap and listen to some podcasts and see if anyone got anything right. Those are my plans for Deathly Hallows.
July 19th, 2007 at 6:26 pm
Micheal, haha, I get the den and outside by the pool. My sister gets the kitchen and the attic. I got the better deal.
July 19th, 2007 at 7:44 pm
AHH I came across the spoiler while on Wikipedia while looking up a Deathly Hallows fact…it’s near the bottom…I am NEVER using Wikipedia EVER again. Wikipedia posted the spoiler! AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!
July 19th, 2007 at 7:48 pm
I didn’t even realize it was a spoiler…I got confused…and thought it was a theory. Then I looked at the heading and it said “Hints from reviews” It wasn’t a hint. It was the spoiler. Don’t read it.
July 19th, 2007 at 8:46 pm
I don’t know if I’m going to get through these next two days with any hair left… I’m checking my mail with my eyes half shut, I won’t let anyone listen to the radio, I sat through dinner in a restaurant wound like a spring, and the thought of being outside without my ipod is actually making my eyes water.
*Trembles*
(By the way everyone, just so you know- I’m a girl :-))
July 19th, 2007 at 10:08 pm
I didn’t know that that could happen. I thought that the people had like EXPERTS making sure that this kind of stuff didn’t happen. Man, I wish they had messed up on me and my dads’ order too! My Mom said that if we both wanted to read it at the same time, we would have to read out loud to eachother. Ha ha ha.
July 19th, 2007 at 10:12 pm
Oh.My.*****. Frances, you READ a spoiler on WIKIPEDIA?!?!?!? My mom will flip, she worships Wikipedia. I neve though a spoiler would be on a site like that!
July 19th, 2007 at 10:13 pm
It’s horrible that we cant listen to the radio, go on familar websites or even watch tv now without spoilers!!!
I HATE IT!
July 19th, 2007 at 11:05 pm
Wikipedia is editable by anyone and everyone; if I wanted to right now I could go an change the Harry Potter page on Wikipedia to say whatever I wanted it to say. You could too. It should definetly be avoided as there are more than likely going to be spoilers put there by nasty folk.
If you really want to remain spoiler-free, I would recommend visiting HPProgs.com and HPProgs.com only.
July 19th, 2007 at 11:38 pm
The thing with all the spoilers out there (I have read most of them) is that they all contradict themselves so like you guys I am really none the wiser until I get the book in my hands. I would avoid Wiki though because the spoilers on there match those of the supposed photographed book. If anything it has left me even more hungry for the book. I could be left thinking that Bloomsbury and Scholastic could be behind a couple of the leaks just incase HP fever hadn’t kicked in for a few.
July 20th, 2007 at 12:02 am
I have to work on Saturday!! 12 to 5 at the Pharmacy and 5:30 to whenever I’m done with all my work (which could be anywhere from 9:45 to 11:30 depending on how busy we are). And then on Sunday I have to work 2 till whenever! So basically, I won’t be able to go online, watch TV, read a newspaper, or talk to ANYONE for like a week because that’s how long it will take me to finish.
Okay, I’m exaggerating, I’ll probably have it done by dinner on Monday. But still.
I’m getting the book at midnight though. Because I live in the middle of nowhere, the nearest bookstore is 20 minutes away. So my friends and I are driving up there for the midnight party and then on the way back, one of them is going to read the book aloud to the rest of us using a flashlight. It’s gonna be pretty sweet.
July 20th, 2007 at 1:25 am
I don’t mind the spoilers really, I read an article about Deathly Hallows that had the basic plot in it and I don’t think it really has spoiled it for me…still lots I don’t know and will be excited to find out! It is released at 9AM in Australia, which is the same time as midnight in America, I think we got the better deal, nine seems more reasonable then midnight to me…
July 20th, 2007 at 3:40 am
It’s nice to know im not the only one going a little crazy in the countdown to the release time! My family, who ahve all read the spoilers, now finds hilarious to say the words harry potter or deathly hallow when im around so they can watch me run from the room yelling “No no don’t tell me i don’t wanna know”. To prevent this happening again im camping out in my room till release time, not watching t.v in case they decide to ruin it! It’s all good though i have the three most important c’s (Cookies candy and chocolate) with me so ill think ill survive.
15hrs 22 miin …. Can’t wait but will!

Amazon has the tracking information for my order now.
I tracked it and the book is sitting 2 miles from my house, already marked “on departure” — it is on a truck — and the next stop is my house, tomorrow.
If they follow normal Saturday deliveries I’ll have my book about 8:30 in the morning. I live next to a large law firm and they always get early deliveries and the ups guy drops ours off the same time.
