Shameless Self Promotion

What can I say, I got used to seeing our names high on the list last month. My ego (and my inner pre-teen girl) needs the rush.

But seriously, the higher we are on Podcast Alley, the more exposure our podcast gets. That is a good thing, by the way.

Do me a favor please and head on over to Podcast Alley to vote for us (I am making this easy for you with a one click link). Remember, you vote once a month. I really do appreciate it. You all are awesome (and did I mention intelligent as well?!?).

Penny:)

p.s. Did you all see JKR’s new wizard of the month? So we were wrong in our prediction- but what do you think about the item he is holding?

in case no one has pointed it out yet, you guy were right awhile back about who the next wizard of the month would be on JKR’s site. it Gryffindor, and he is holding the sword!!

  2. Aaron Says:

I thought I did? :) BTW I have a hard time trying to find my inner pre-teen girly feelings, but I will keep looking.

  3. Aaron Says:

Ok got another vote in just 4 you ;)

  4. Sally Says:

I just voted. Never voted before, sorry…but better late then never, right?

  5. Natalie Says:

I voted for the first time for you. Of course I’ll keep voting every month. HP Progs deserves to be right at the top =]

  6. jgotaas Says:

I voted also. Do we know what Rowena Ravenclaw’s item is? Would a book be too cheesey? What’s a classic symbol of intellect? Chess?

Okay, I did a quick search and could it be a walnut? “WALNUT: Different nuts had their own specific symbolic qualities, for example the walnut was considered good for the brain because of its sympathetic shape. It was to some, an evil talisman but to other a symbol of intellect; stratagem.” I found this on the ARMORIAL GOLD HERALDRY SYMBOLISM LIBRARY site.

Okay, maybe not, but I thought it was funny. Just think about it: an ornate cup, ruby encrusted sword, an emerald embellished locket and a walnut. . . perhaps shaped out of a huge blue sapphire. . . ;D

  7. Joye Beth Says:

I voted for you guys! And left you a nice little comment lol. Good thinking putting the link in there for lazy people like me!

  8. Michal Says:

Now that I think about it, I guess it make sense not to show us Ravenclaw. Most people suspected that the sword might be the horcrux, especially after the covers were released. But all we have for Ravenclaw are educated guesses, and I guess Jo wanted to keep it that way.

  9. Meg Says:

I dont think the sword is a horcrux I think she showed us what we knew (or guessed) was: the cup/the locket and what we knew wasnt (the sword)
Showing us Ravenclaw would be a HUGE give away
and we all know J.K.R. isnt a big fan of showing us a lot of clues..
    but thats just my opinion

  10. Tani Says:

I can’t help but think that Ravenclaw will be holding a wand. Cup, Sword, Locket, Wand. It just makes too much sense. I don’t think the sword is a horcrux (unless Dumbledore was wrong), but that Rowena’s wand definitely could be. We know Voldemort would want that wand!

Only seventeen more days before we know…

  11. doasis Says:

Remember in book six when Harry was running into Trelawny, she rattled off the four suits: clubs, spades, hearts, diamonds. Diamonds refers to shiny things like Slytherins locket, Hearts to vessels like Hufflepuff’s cup, Spades or swords like Gryffindor’s, and clubs to staves like Ravenclaw’s wand. I have been advocating the wand upon a purple pillow in Olivander’s display window from the first book for several months now.

I can’t vote for this podcast anymore than vote for American Idol, it is against my metal to vote for things like this. Thank you for your encouragment but i would be betraying myself. Besides i only use itunes.

  12. Aaron Says:

Yep I always thought you were right on the money with the wand theory. I always talk about it and think it is indeed a doasis original. I don’t vote for American Idol either. It cost money and really is just a way to exploit the performers and squeeze more profit from them. Podcat Alley doesn’t cost a thing has no spam and serves to expose the show to others who may not know about it. Besides you can vote for as many podcast as you want so it isn’t the same for me. If there is one person who shares in the fun because of my voting then hurray for HP Progs! I think itunes is ran by a bunch of republicans. That whole Apple Corporation is about as innocent as Haliburten.

  13. Dee Says:

    LUNCH!!

  14. webby Says:

Is it me, or does Godric’s eyes look green to me? Could it be that Lily’s family are muggle descendants of Gryffindor?

  15. webby Says:

And Apple a Republican Bastion? Man oh man, you do not pay attention to anything in the tech industry do you?

  16. Wendy Says:

Penny, I appreciate the reminders. Some of us need to be reminded that its a new month! And thanks for making it so easy!

  17. Aaron Says:

    It was sarcasim webby lol

  18. webby Says:

Whew Aaron! As a registered Republican, the last thing I want see in life is Apple become corrupted from the bile refuse of ultra-conservative posturing. Look what we did to Microsoft - but that is another forum.

I am very curious about Godric’s green eyes (Wizard of the Month). The sword is a no brainer, but does that mean Lily’s is descended from that line? The train of thought I had always gone by was that it was from Potter family - since Lily was Muggle-born. So could there be a Muggle line descended from Gryffindor?

    Curious, very curious…

  19. Michal Says:

Maybe Gryffindor was Muggle-born. It might explain his devotion to Wizarding equality causes, and how there could be Muggles related to him.

  20. Aaron Says:

Hmm that would be a cool thought. Lily being a descendant of GG but I think that JK has posted that Harry is not a related to him in any way. The green eyes may have some significance but how they would translate into the movies is questionable as the green eyes have been left out due to Dan Radcliffs youth and trouble with contact lenses. You know I consider myself conservative but in high school we had to take a test and I was shown to be the most liberal minded in the school. Could it be that politics have changed that much since 1983?

  21. Andy Says:

Has anyone worked out the people voldemort killed = horcruxes made? Just wondered as I have always thought that Voldy made a horcrux from James’ death which could be the gryffindor related one as both James and Lily were Gryffindors. My theory is the snitch that James always played with could be one, would make sense of why JK has made so much out of Harry and Ginny being great seekers. Just my mad mind at work again.

Would be very surprised if it was as easy as Gryffindors sword because it has been in DD’s office all that time, and surely he would’ve tried whatever it is that you do to destroy a horcrux on it.

Will toddle over to Podcast alley now….

  22. Frances Says:

Yall are already ahead of Pottercast! Woot! Kepp up the voting! I enjoy seeing my fav podcasts up in the ranks..Vote vote vote! I will call my friends and tell them to vote for yall! Yay! But, we need top 10! Top 10 baby! Woot! We’re currently 15, lets move up 5 spots! We can do it! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! GOOOOOOOOOOO HP PROGS! Sorry. Had a sugar rush and my inner cheerleader came out of hiding. Scary when that happens, huh?

  23. Frances Says:

Oh, and I vote for american idol. But my cell has unlimited calling, so I just have a plan…I use a good, indepented cell phone company that is really good and cheap anyways. Whatever. I love american idol and hate when it is off-season.

  24. webby Says:

I don’t recall JK mentioning that Harry is not related to Gryffindor (I have looked up debunked rumors and character info and have not seen that mentioned anywhere). He is not related to Dumbledore (and she never alluded that Dumbledore is a descendent of Gryffindor) and Harry is not related to Voldermort (Tom Riddle), and therefore not to Slytherin. Unless someone here has hard evidence, I still believe that Harry is a descendent of Gryffindor (COS, pg 334 hard cover American edition - “Only a true Gryffindor could have pulled that out of the hat”).

So, if Harry is a descendant of Gryffindor, it would be a great twist that it is through Lily, and therefore Aunt Petunia is also related (and Dudley as well - shudder) - and JK did mention that something big would be revealed about Aunt Petunia (and we know that she is not a Squib, nor will show any magical powers later in life).

That is my ramble thought anyway

  25. Andy Says:

If webby is right, could the trio be visiting Godric Gryffindor’s vault at Gringotts on the UK cover? Hmmm, mind starts into overdrive.
I always thought that the vault would be the Black family vault where RAB or Kreacher may have left the locket (and I believe Hufflepuffs cup) I think he collected more than one horcrux just never worked out how to destroy them.
But now I look at it, the vault is full of rubies so Gryffindor makes sense, could the Gryffindor horcrux be in there anyway?

  26. Aaron Says:

I dunno webby you may be right. After reading so many blogs it is easy to get mixed up. I know I have read that or seen it somewhere though if I can find it I will tell you unless some here knows.

  27. Frances Says:

ooh….webby I like that. That was basically my first thought when I looked at the picture. I said to myself…green eyes, red hair. Who do we know that has red hair and green eyes? LILY! That indeed may be what her “secret” is, unless it’s something else. haha that sounded funny.

But, wait, Godrics Hollow. OMG I just figured something out! Yay me! Well, James and Lily found refuge in Godrics Hollow, right? And some people had conflicting ideas about Hogsmeade being the only all magical settlement in Britain. What if Godrics Hollow is in New Zeland? The Antipedion Opaleye (don’t like your theory on it being Draco, Greg and Penny) on the deluxe edition could be flying over New Zeland, and the town underneath could be Godrics Hollow! The Dragon, I dunno, could have been found in a mountain. Or…wait. Maybe Godric’s Hollow could be a safe haven for wizard decendants of Godric. What if one up and said, “Harry, I am your mother’s father’s cousin’s nephew’s child!” What if they were afraid to apparate because of the feeling of being sucked down a tube? What if they were an animagus? A dragon, an Antipedion Opaleye that could take them places without having to apparate? AHHHH! I thing I should go write a fanfic about this right now. But It will take me too long until the book comes out. Drat. Oh well.

Well…I just thought of this theory and typed as it came to me. Wow. I amaze myself. I usually don’t have intresting theorys. Ok, I’ll stop rambling like an idiot now.

  28. Frances Says:

I was just in the zone! That was the first and only time for me today! haha I guess that happens when it’s raining on the forth of july and you can’t shoot fireworks…:-)

  29. Andy Says:

Frances, I like the way you are thinking, nothing at all do with the fact I am a NZer and want the last Harry Potter to have that link with my homeland. But I did think something similar when the Anitpodean Opaleye was mentioned as its homeland is NZ, and then there was the question about intercontinental apparition in the WOMBATS. I also think it may relate to the symbol on the spine of the UK edition with the triangle, circle and line through. I hypothesize that this represents Southern/Northern Hemispheres. There is the same object in DD office in Movie 4 in the pensieve scene so we know it relates to an instrument of sorts. Anyway rambling now so will leave before I get myself into too deep.

  30. Frances Says:

Oh yeah, I forgot about the little symbol in Dumby’s office that was the symbol. I do believe someone on Mugglecast said that a while ago. Hmmm…I should go watch GoF again.

  31. Frances Says:

Did I say symbol in Dumby’s office? I meant instrumment. Maybe a horcrux detector?

  32. Andy Says:

Had another thought, isn’t there 24 hours missing from the time the Potter’s were killed in Godric’s Hollow to the time DD delivered him to Privet Drive…hmmm it takes 24 hours to get to London from NZ by plane…(or dragon?)

  33. webby Says:

Well, I am very amazed how a little question took a life if its own. Now for a possible tangent… the Weasley’s.

Do any of them have green eyes as well? I remember a comment from either Sirius of Dumbledore that the Weasley family is highly regarded wizarding family name (one of the few “pure bloods” left). A lot of made of the Black and Malfoy families and their lineage, but little is made of the Weasley’s lineage? Maybe a red herring here, but considering how prominent the entire Weasley clan is to the stories, little is made of the family and their history.

Is JK holding back until the final book - could they be descedents of Gryffindor instead (could that unique clock be a Gryffindor item)?

Another random thought. I still like the idea of it being Lily instead of James being the descedent - but I find it quite odd how little is actually made about the Weasley clan in these stories - between Bill and Charlie, Percy and the twins, then Ron and Ginny - all play integral roles in the story, second only to Harry himself it seems. Amazing how one entire family can be so central but so “anonymous.”

    Ok, talk amongst ourselves again.

  34. Frances Says:

Yes, I have always wondered how there “history” is. Arthur Weasly is pureblood, but he loves muggles, and none of them have prejudice against muggles, you’d think there would have been some tybe of half-blood in the family, but apparantly they are all intent on marrying pure bloods. That is a bit strange. Maybe JKR had thought of them as a pure blood family since the beggining, and was not going to change it now? Maybe it actually does play a significant role in book seven. My guess is that it won’t, since there won’t be much time for that. I would really like JKR to write an indepth history of the Weasly family, so we can see if they are really pure. Didn’t someone say that the “pure” families are not all completely pure? What if there was a squib who married a muggle and had a witch or wizard? Would that make the family, “not completely pure?”
Is that what happened with the ‘accountant’ in the Weasly family? Were they a squib? Didn’t JKR say she would write a Magical Encyclopedia one day after she was done with Harry Potter? Will she answer these questions? Do these questions matter? Am I just crazy?!

  35. Frances Says:

Before Voldy killed James and Lily, he had 5 horcruxes and 6 pieces of soul. When he tried to kill Harry, the curse destroyed the piece of his soul that was in his body. Then, he would only have 5 pieces of soul left. He used one to inhabit his new body. Then he would only have 4 horcruxes. Presumably, he then made Nagini a horcrux. Now he has 5 horcruxes, 6 pieces of soul. The diary was destroyed. The ring was destroyed. The locket, if we take that note as true, is destroyed. Unless Voldy only has made another horcrux, he only has 2 undestroyed horcruxes, 3 pieces of soul…Is this an author’s mistake, or is it significant?

I am sorry, this is way off topic. No one is listening to me anywhere else. Please look and comment. Please. Unless everyone is thinking along these same lines, I’ve never heard anyone bring this crucial point up. Thanks!

    ~Frances

  36. Andy Says:

Frances, what a way to hurt my head! I don’t understand the whole horcrux thing as in how many he created etc, but my understanding of the night at Godric’s Hollow was that his body was destroyed not his soul as this is what he possesed Quirrel with and needed to cast the spell at the graveyard with Harry’s blood to make a new one (body that is). But maybe you are right and the whole thing was that he was killed so lost a piece of soul and what tied him to the earth were the remaining pieces. If that is so then he must’ve had to use one of the horcruxes already.

I always believed that the remaining horcruxes would be Hufflepuff’s, Ravenclaw’s, Slytherin’s and Gryffindor’s and that Nagini wasn’t one as DD wasn’t really that sure. That would also make up the Air, Water, Fire, Earth which ties it all back up in Alchemy.

And people call these children’s books!
