Episode #34.5: A Show about Nothing

Hey y’all!  Penny just couldn’t stand being bedridden any longer, so she drug herself out of bed and we did a podcast!  Things have been a bit hectic around HPProgs HQ the last week or so, as Penny has suffered a pretty nasty injury to her spine.  Were still trying to figure out how we’re going to fix that; in the mean time, there’s no sense in not prognosticating.  This week’s quasi-episode features a bit of discussion into what’s going on with Penny (if you care), a little prognosticating on Potter, and a little off-topic discussions (sorry for the off-topic-ness, but we’ve been a bit busy) which are clearly marked as spoilers for those of you outside the US (you can listen until we tell you not to).  I have a pretty bad cold and therefore sound like a post-pubertal Kermit the Frog.  Anyways, thanks for listening, we hope to be back with your regularly scheduled all-Potter-themed podcast next week.

Update: Here is a link to the forum. There are a lot of great conversations going on there and you should join in. The thread about the TV finales is in the “All You Want to Talk” forum. We can’t wait to hear your thoughts!!

You can listen to the podcast with the player below, or download an mp3 directly.

What is a pubertal Kermit the Frog? Does it have something to do with tadpoles? Good to hear your voices Prognosticating again. Pretty well done considering you were shooting from the hip in a melincoly state of mind. There actually is a lot of Harry Potter stuff to think about in it. I would like to hear more about those horcruxes. 45 days to go!

  2. Rachael Says:

Even though I don’t watch any of the shows ya’ll talked about it was grand to hear ya’ll again. I know that their are 34 other episodes to listen to but it’s just not the same.

    Greg and Penny,
Do you both know that you have the power to make me squeel like a school girl when you mention me on the Podcast? I suppose it is equivalent to what you both feel when you move up the ranks on podcast alley.
Anyways, thanks for making the suggestion pages on your bookshelf. I will keep an eye on it.
I also have to say that you two are so entertaining that I listened to your chat about lost and the office and I have only seen a few Office episodes and yet I was still entertained. Bonus points for both of you!

Thanks for podcasting! It is always a treat to listen no matter what you both chat about!

  4. CoolCole Says:

Hey! Love the bookshelf… neat idea. I’ll be ordering from it as soon as I can. Hope you get to feeling better Penny.
    I missed you guys!

    Take care.

Hey Guys!!! I’m finally able to catch up on all the podcasts! Woo for summer! I really hope that you feel better soon, Penny, I can’t imagine how awful it must be to stay in bed all day.

But I agree with you that Ravenclaw is probably the next WotM on JK’s website. I can’t believe how quickly the end is approaching!

The Bookshelf thing sounds awesome, I’m definitely going to have to check it out after I finish typing this.

I had to turn off the thing when you guys started talking about Lost though… I still have yet to watch the finale, and I refuse to let my brother spoil it for me… I really need to get on that.

But, as always, I love you guys, and I’m sorry for the several week absence… graduating is rough. But high school is over now!! Anyway, have a great week!

    Penny,

I’m glad you are well enough to do a podcast, I hope you get better soon. I loved the bionic neck thing, you don’t sound a bit like Lindsay Wagner though.

It was a great show, I hope you’ll be up to doing another one soon, and I hope your injury won’t keep you from seeing the Knight Bus when it comes near you. I want to hear about that on the podcast, can you do remote podcasting? The Bus is not coming to my area, can you tell I’m just a little disappointed?

So, you told me about all the shows you watch (the only one you mentioned that I watch is 24, which I got sucked into because my husband watches it and it sounds like you can relate to that. I wanted you to know it isn’t only those overseas who don’t watch Lost, etc.

But I have a show recommendation for you. NCIS. Another one my husband got me hooked on, so hooked I’ve been getting the DVDs from past seasons from NetFlix. This show is not the same as the CSI shows. It’s very character driven and has a lot of humor, but this season there’s been a sort of mystery going on almost behind the scenes, there are hints at it in almost every episode but I didn’t tie them all in till the season finale, which gave us a major key to the mystery but didn’t explain everything and left at least one character in a very uncertain position.

It’s one of those shows you have to watch a couple of times to “get”. The characters and the way they interact make the show, but you have to take a bit of time to get to know them before you’ll appreciate it. Once you do, though, it’s really well done and very funny in a not-obvious way. The format of the show is that there’s a case they have to solve, and they solve it in one show usually (NCIS is Naval Criminal Investigative Service, they investigate crimes involving servicepeople, like if a Marine is murdered). There are story lines that go beyond individual episodes, too, mostly involving the characters and their private lives, romances, etc. We learn a bit more about them on almost every episode. Sometimes it’s just random info, or sometimes it only seems that way and actually ties together as you see later looking back at it. If you haven’t watched this show, I’d encourage you to check it out.

I hope you feel better, Penny! =^.^=

  8. Greg in Toronto Says:

Thanks to Penny and Greg for giving us more of what we love! Plus, loved all the supplemental Lost and Office material… much appreciated. Take care guys!!

  9. Shaun Cole Says:

I’ll start watching Office. It sounds crazy and I’ve been meaning to catch it. :) Jericho anyone?

    -Shaun

  10. Megan Says:

I was so proud of my self that I knew what Babinski (sp?) was before you explained it. I suppose that that’s what comes of watching too many medical shows. :) Though actually, I think ER is the only one that’s mentioned it… but I still watch too many.
Also, I have to say that Ender’s Game rocks hardcore. I read it last year as an outside reading book for English, and it was sooo good.

  11. PrestoJeff Says:

Best wishes on your injury, Penny, hope everything works out okay!

  12. Aaron Says:

Ok I had a comment. I was on PodCast Alley and was goofing around voting for HP Progs and such and happened to click listen with the player on that page. Well this episode started playing and I left it on as I went to work. Well it keeps playing and playing all the episodes so when I got home I found that I had bombarded my family to a continual constant flow of prognostications. When my children awoke they had a strange blank expression on there faces walking around like zombies. All they could say was, There is nothing cooler than Harry Potter over and over. Thanks Greg and Penny thats the first time I have been able to keep them from argueing since they were born. Seriously I came home to the Ginny Weasley episode and had forgotten how funny that was. Well there is my comment about nothing. :)

  13. Greg Says:

Aaron: we’ve set up speakers around our home so that we listen to HPProgs 24/7 (although Penny keeps trying to switch to another Potter Podcast, but I won’t let her). ;)

  14. Aaron Says:

You are so right Greg! Do you think these woman realize how much we do for them?

  15. J Says:

    Penny-

If you like romance novels, you should read Francine Rivers’ Mark of a Lion series. It starts off kind of slow but once you push through the first couple chapters you can’t put them down! I read the three books in less than a week. The characters are incredible.

I hope you feel better :)

  16. SnivyUS Says:

I am so amazed by this podcast and intend on listening for the Wonderpets podcast. That is a cute show Greg! I was wondering if you could do a special podcast for the smaller characters like Lavender Brown and what you think will happen to them. I hope Penny gets better and Greg doesn’t sound like a Kermit with a nasal problem.
