“I missed not having an episode so I made my own.”

You all rock.  You really do.  You are as intelligent as I said you were.  And there is no Lew.  It is lieu (see last post)- sue me- I am drugged out.

As promised, here is the  lost/fake/faux/ episode of HPPROGS courtesy of our very own listener, Aaron (a.k.a SFC MAC).  Thanks Aaron.  It made our day.

The Fictional Harry Potter Prognostications. Episode 35. The Bionic Neck.

( intro music theme from the six million dollar man)

Greg:      Hello and welcome to episode 35 of Harry Potter Prognostications! I’m Greg!

Penny:    And I’m Penny!

Greg:    And if you thought Harry Potter was just for kids?

Penny: Think again!

Greg: This week we are going to be talking about  what  will happen in book 7 based upon what are fans have written on our website, HP Progs .com  but before we get to that, Well let me say we have had a great response and thank you to all well wishers who have offered their sympathy to Penny regarding her recent injury.

Penny: Yes, Thank you all for your kind words but now due to advances in medical science I no longer have to worry about a pain in my neck.

Greg: Should we talk about it?  It may not be prudent to broadcast your personal medical records on the show?

Penny: I don’t see why not. It’s really no big deal.

Greg: Ok then I shall kick it over to the lovely Penny for the news.

Penny: Well here is your Harry Potter Prognostications news for May 31st 2007 . As all of you know I had my neck replaced recently with a robotic….

Greg: It’s bionic

Penny: Robotic, Bionic? What’s the difference?

Greg:  There’s a big difference.

Penny: Well it’s my neck I can call it whatever I want.

Greg: Ok but don’t blame me when you get the wrong type of batteries.

Penny: Ok we are stopping this now.

Greg: Ok but seriously the improvement is fantastic. Not only has the pain been eliminated but it came with a lot of really cool accessories. We have been able to electronically crosswire this new piece of hardware to be able to play all the HP audio books and have Penny directly linked to the internet so she can access instantly any Book, page number or quote in any major piece of  literature located in the entire library of congress.

Penny:  Yes it definitely makes it easier not having to worry about preparing for the pod cast subjects anymore.

Greg: You used to prepare?

Penny: Yes I prepared and now I have the ability to out reference and out prognosticate you.

Greg:   Well I wouldn’t go that far but it surely makes it more challenging. I am just glad it has a mute button.

Penny: Greg! I told you to stop using that! It just gets annoying.

Greg: I know but maybe I can just turn down the volume when you are angry at me.

Penny: I suppose I can give you that as long as you don’t make a habit of it.

Greg: Thank you. I must say though it has taken some getting used to seeing you walk around like inspector Gadget.

Penny: I do like being taller than you now. It has been great with the kids they can climb and swing all over me now and it doesn’t phase me a bit.

Greg: We are getting off subject.

Penny: Well there really isn’t any real news anyways except that Laura Mallory is a sad attention craving lunatic.

Greg: Yes well then to our subject for today. What was it?

Penny: Our fans theories about book 7.

Greg: Oh that’s right. Well so many of you have written so much about this.

Penny: You all have some really great theories!

Greg: Yes true the response has been terrific.

Penny: I am serious when I say we have some really smart listeners.

Greg: That’s what we were going for but as we reach the final stretch in the adventure I believe we have found the answer to our subject.

Penny: and whets amazing are we actually agree.

Greg: We sometimes agree it just makes for a more interesting discussion when we can debate both sides. The conclusion we have reached though is pretty obvious I must say.

Penny: Yes drum roll please…….. Aaron is right. I am almost sorry I gave him grief about Hagrid.

Greg: Well I’m sure he forgives you at least I do. And in saying that this closes episode 35.

Penny: what a great episode maybe next week we can discuss replacing some of your anatomy.

Greg: Perhaps what exactly are you referring to?

Penny: Bye Bye!

The End.

PS. We will hopefully record tonight.

    Hi Penny and Greg,
I voted for you on podcast alley. No guilt trip here please.
Penny: I also wanted to say that I read the Time Traveler’s Wife because you mentioned it on one of the podcasts and I have to say that book was amazing. Do you have any other reading recommendations? I am looking for stuff to read until July 21st. Anyways thanks for the reading tip!
I hope you are feeling better!

Hi. I just finished listening to all the episodes. I had two 6hr drives and listening to all of it during that. I wanted to comment on it all, but I have no idea if it’ll be in order or which episode it is relevant too. Sorry, but this will be a bit random, almost stream of consciousness.

Ok first off I have some questions. In one episode Greg mentioned that the theme of book 6 was moral ambiguity and the Snape exemplifies this by being on his own side so to speak. I wanted to know what you thought were the themes of each book. Some are easy, such as book two being about identity. On the same note, I think it was Penny, mentioned that there is a plot devise in each book that relates to the theme, such as the Polyjuice Potion and the theme of identity. I wanted to know what you think is the theme and the plot devise in each book.

In the episode about prophecy you left out the third book completely. Talk about self-fulfilling prophecies, would Harry have reacted the way he did in the shack if he had not heard the prophecy? He thought it applied to Sirius not Peter, but it influenced his actions. Also in OotP we hear small bits of two different prophecies that get knocked off the shelf, I’m not sure it’s important, but they are “…at the Solstice will come a new…” and “…and none will come after…”, food for thought.

The last episode I listened to was the one about how to destroy a horcrux (by the way the plural is horcruxes not horcruxi, JKR clarified that) I think you guy missed a large possibility, the discussion was good, but you left out my theory completely so I thought I would tell you mine. I’ll preface it will a bit about me, I am a 25year-old historian between my masters and my doctorate focusing on ancient cultures/philosophies/mythologies/religions, and I think Harry is a horcrux. (if you haven’t read http://www.mugglenet.com/editorials/editorials/edit-emerald01.shtml you need to, it’s wonderful). I think that the reason Harry had an easier time with the diary than DD had with the ring is summed up in the prophecy “The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches” Harry has that power. I personally think that the part of voldies soul in Harry lets Harry destroy the horcruxes without adverse effect as the bit of soul with in the object sees him as familiar. If you disagree with the horcrux theory fine, call it Harry’s power.

I can’t believe you haven’t done a whole episode on the Chamber of Secrets yet. I think that one of the horcruxes in down there. It is plural after all. One secret being the basilisk what are the others?

I think that RAB is three people, one of them being Regulus (either the R or the B) and Yes, I think the locket in book 5 is the horcrux. No, I have no idea who the other two are. And what JKR said what that “Regulus would be a fine guess” it was in the Mugglenet/Leaky Cauldron interview right after book 6 came out.

An idea for a future episode, I have discussed this with Aaron in the past, the behavior of spells, specifically AK and Expelliarmus. (I have a blog posted on my myspace http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog&pop=1&indicate=1 with more.)

I love listening to you guys and will probably think of more but that’s all I can think of right now. later.

  7. Becky Says:

Thanks Aaron, and thanks Greg and Penny for posting that. Totally funny!

I could hear Greg and Penny’s voices while reading Aaron’s fake podcast.

Will be waiting to hear the next podcast but will definitely understand if it comes later than sooner.

  8. snorelax001 Says:

    *claps*
    Very funny.

  9. Michal Says:

    Heh heh heh…

While we’re on the subject of doing silly HP related things… I just called my local library to register for the Knight Bus thing and they didn’t know what to do with me! It went sort of like this:

Library Guy: OK, are you going to be in school during those hours?

Me: Well no, I’m in college.

    *Long pause*

Me: Well, I’m, I’m really a kid at heart!

LG: Ok, let me connect you to someone else…

And then another lady told me that to record the video you had to have a parent sign a release form, but she didn’t know if I could do it for myself. Because of course, it’s really for public school kids- good advertising for the book. But, she ammended, anyone can come and see the Knight Bus…

I’m just picturing this video the website people are going to put together… dozens of kids in tee-shirts and braces talking about how cool Harry is and then… me. Oh, the travails we more mature devotees suffer for our love!

  10. Rachael Says:

I think ya’ll should have a contest on who can make the best fake-hp prognostications episode.

  11. Penny's mom Says:

Aaron: you win the prize!! You have really really captured my daughter and son in law, Penny and Greg…I can just hear them saying all that!! Kudos to your great sense of humor. and P and G: I think Rachael’s idea is great…only Aaron just won first prize!!
    Love, Mom

  12. the bestest bbstr Says:

that is really funny! its freaky how much it really sounds like them! :) oh, and penny and greg, i think you owe me for being there during that sad sad neck injury….being on a podcast sounds like payment enough…!

  13. Aaron Says:

Thanks to everyone who enjoyed my version of a get well soon card. It just goes to show how good this podcast is and how Greg and Penny make us smile every week. Like everyone here I miss hearing the real thing and can’t wait until you are well and rested again.

  14. Rachael Says:

haha, Penny’s mom is right, Aaron wins first prize and if greg and Penny decide to make it a contest the highest you can get is second.

  15. Greg Says:

Luvssnape: check out the HPProgs Bookshelf; we’ve got new categories with recommendations from me and Penny with stuff we’ve recently read/watched and liked. It’s at http://www.hpprogs.com/bookshelf.

Cara: good thoughts! If you want to read more about the themes of the books, check out the old HPProgs blog, look for the Patterns in Potter essays. After Book 7 comes out, we’ll go more into themes.

  16. Luvssnape Says:

Thanks Greg I will check out the bookshelf!
