Domestic Trailer for OoTP is up!!

OK, if it got our listener, Michal, to rethink her purist ideals and consider seeing the movie, you know the international trailer was a success.

Now, the domestic U.S. trailer is up- watch it and tell us what you think. There are some new scenes and pictures.  It looks good.  I am just going to weigh in on a few thoughts before I get your opinions though:

  • Hermione’s Hair- blonde?!?
  • Ron giving Harry that “Power to the People”/”I’ve got you, Dawg” hand motion during the D.A.- not doing it for me.
  • The Order (including Harry) on Privet Drive summoning their brooms: COOL (and Kingsley Shackelbolt looks good- he might be up there with Samuel L. Jackson a.k.a. Mace Windu for ‘baddest’ good guy).
  • Harry dropping Dennis Creevy comes in at a close second to the infamous milk drool in Goblet of Fire for girl induced temporary lapse of control slapstick .
  • Is that an effigy of a death eater?
  • I can’t decide who is more evil: Ralph Fiennes as the Nazi in Schindler’s List or Voldemort.

Tell me what you think.

My favourite part: Harry’s quote: “… every great wizard in history has started out as nothing more than what we are now, and if they can do it, why not us???” I thought it was perfect how they played this quote over flashes of scenes featuring Dumbledore, Voldemort, Lupin, Mad-eye, and Sirius. I really love that they are focussing on how much more Harry and his companions are taking a more proactive stance against ol Voldy. I am starting to feel confident that they have condensed the book into something that is pretty meaningful and captures the spirit of Rowling’s prose (although I think they did a good job in Prisoner of Azkaban). The book itself features some of the most cinematic imagery of the entire series so far, and I am glad they are pulling out all the stops, while maintaining some thematic discipline. I CANNOT wait for the big Dumbledore/Voldemort blowout in the ministry… it looks INCREDIBLE!! I appreciated this trailer a bit more than the international trailer because of the lack of “movie-guy” talk-over… I really hate that guy when he starts narrating the damn thing…

How come the US trailer is so much better than the international one? I’m also not exactly sure why they produce two separate versions, but given that I’m living in the US I guess I can’t complain!

Here’s hoping the movie (by necessity of its length) improves on the book. Having watched the trailers I’m getting really quite excited.

Well I like any glimps of the new scenes. If the trailers are any forshadowing of how my mind will perceive this movie then I guess I will be watching it about 10 times before I absorb it all. I’m afraid to watch it at IMAX or 3d as my head my empolde. Definatly glad I read the book or I’d drive my 11 year old crazy asking him whats going on over and over. I dunno the book has been discussed as slow until the DA scenes and I was wondering if the movie will be as well. The battle scenes and DA scenes look to be pretty swell. Hermines hair well that will always be an issue Penny. Maybe she is coping your blonde Office character look. :) I think Luna Lovegood will be a show worth seeing all by herself and I found myself cheering as Umbridge was shown fleeing the flaming explosions already. I like Belatrix and was happy to finally see a glimps of Snape. Harry snogging Cho is about as exciting as him blinding horses to me. Must be a chick thing. Voldemort probably would have made a fair nazi so I’ll just say bad is bad but at least Voldemort is entertaining and envirementally consciencous as he saves a lot of trees by not needing tissues to blow his nose. (sorry couldn’t come up with anything better.) I was just wondering why there was no scenes showing Bill and Fleurs wedding? Wait a minute I’m just confusing myself again aren’t I? Good thing HP Progs is here to keep me straight.

Hey Guys! HPProgs podcast has been reviewed on the latest episode of Spinnerscast. Someone should write these young whippersnappers (the online PC version of something inappropriate to say about youngsters) that the reason you don’t edit or have a “snazzy web site” (which I love by the way because it is so easy to read, but then again, the eyes are going of course) is because you have KIDS! In other words you have a life outside the fandom and put a lot of time into this as it is.

Which, btw, if you are feeling unappreciated, DON”T. Love the site, LOVE the podcast! You guys are great and I look forward to keeping tabs on what everyone has to say. Cheers!

I think Ralph Fiennes makes bad look good

RF is perhaps more frightening in this short trailer, than in GOF. He is extremely uglified , but it’s not his look what makes him scary. He has the aura of Evil, tormenting and goosebumping. His voice changes from step to step, from sweet high baritone (GOF:’The boy who lives’) to a creepy hoarsely horrific whisper (’Harry Potter , you’ll know Africa’- if I understood it well). What about his Amon Goeth and Voldemort, they differ from each other totally, you can see the different aspects of Evil, a human monster and a romantic fairytale monster. Both are excellent!

I feel like all I do is comment ya’ll on myspace and make you pictures (even though i only did one, the rest are in my mind) and I’m like crowding comment space, but I don’t care.

The HD trailor is so amzing. I was sitting in my computer chair one minute and the next i was on the edge of it wih my face glued to the screen. I watched it about 5 times trying to see everything I could.
It makes me love the movies about 10,000 times more than I did in November 2005 (or whenever the 4th movie came out).
