Special Episode: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - What does it mean?

I think the title says it all.  Penny and I made a quick podcast of our thoughts on the new title.  Check it out (or download as an mp3).

We’ll definetly be talking more about this in future episodes.  Some things we missed in our quick podcast:

Could Harry have to Hallow the four remaining horcruxes? I could see that Harry would need to use his “power of love” to cleanse the Horcruxes of LV’s soul.

  2. Greg Says:

Deann - that is possible, I think the horcruxes are going to play an integral part in defeating Lord Voldemort, but slightly different. Stay tuned for the next episode of the podcast, we’re going to discuss the Deathly Hallows and specifically how the horcruxes fit into the big picture (at least according to my theory).

Just one quick comment (as I catch up with your podcasting!).

It occured to me when I was listening to this discussion that we have sort of seen “deathly hallowing” (in the verb sense you were talking about) before. Both Lily’s sacrifice, and the unbreakable vow, involved someone either choosing to die, or choosing to possibly die, in order to cast some special magic. While I wouldn’t translate it too literally onto what we might expect in Book 7, I think it’s interesting that we have already seen stuff kind of in the vein the title suggests.

Oh, one other thing - I don’t know if you noticed it or not, but the door opened on December 21st - the Solstice. Lots of interesting death-and-rebirth sybolism there. And Harry’s wand is holly and phoenix - a double dose of similar symbolism.

I do agree that harry will not die, But one of his closest friends will die which will prove him wishing for death rather than continuing living, and so this will give him the same protection. Ron and Hermione (who will use the same protection as harry’s mother) will die and this will give harry the protection of muggle and wizard kind alike. this is why Hermione was originally a muggle born, it is quite significant. Also, Harry will gain the power of supreme occulmency. When dumbledore died, he emptied his mind of all thoughts. he thought “he doubted he would ever feel curious again” His master of occulemens will lead to his power to use leginemens that even voldemort will not be able to block and neither will snape. Also, Snape and D. Malfoy will definitley help him ultimately kill LV and the basic idea of the title is to tell why and how Harry really survived, I think that the thing that harry was told his mother did was not all, because how can such miniscule magic KILL LV?? definetly an amazing plot and should be more than 1000 pages!
