Episode #6: What Happened at Godric’s Hollow?

Tuesday, October 31st, 2006

October 31, Halloween, has special significance in the Wizarding World; not only does it mark the anniversary of Nearly Headless Nick’s nearly-beheading, it’s also the date that Lord Voldemort attacked the Potter’s in Godric’s Hollow. In memory, we’ve got a special All Hallow’s Eve edition of HPProgs discussing just what went down on that fateful night. There’s a lot we don’t know, which, of course, calls for some prognosticating.

For some background info on Godric’s Hollow, check out the HP Lexicon’s page on Godric’s Hollow, as well as this timeline of the events leading up to October 31, 1981.

Cool Podcast Widget

Friday, October 27th, 2006

I’ve added a cool little widget, courtesy of the folks at Odeo, to the sidebar.  It provides easy access to all the HPProgs podcasts.  Even better, you can post the player to your own site (or MySpace page); just visit this page at Odeo, copy the code (you can customize the colors, etc. if you like) and paste the code into your site.

Episode #5: Ron and Hermione? Duh!

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

Since the beginning, Ron and Hermione seem to have been destined to, well, something.  Some think these star-crossed lovers have been fated to be together from the start, while others hold out hopes (dreams?) that perhaps Harry or Victor will capture Hermione’s heart.  In this episode, we discuss just why Ron and Hermione are meant to be together.

As a reference see my post on the old HPProgs blog, Weasley and Granger in Love.  Make sure to read the comments for some classic denial-of-the-obvious H/H shipping.

Episode #4: Voldemort - What makes him so bad?

Monday, October 16th, 2006

As villians go, Harry’s arch-nemesis Voldermort carries a big stick, but does he use it? Although we are admonished as to the unbelievable evilness of He Who Shall Not Be Named, for some of us, the picture painted of Lord Voldemort is not all that horrifying. Certainly he talks big, representing ideals that would seem to lead to mass murder and genocide, but his follow-through, at least so far, has been pretty weak. Is this really the true source of his ultimate evilness, or is there, perhaps, so underlying theme that animates these dark ambitions? What is the secret to understanding the real, utlimate terror that is Lord Voldemort, that will really cause us to fear to speak his very name? Tune in as we discuss and debate what makes Voldie such a baddie, and how this reflects on Harry and the nature of his goodness.A quick wrapup of the news:

Episode #3: Just how dead is Dumbledore?

Wednesday, October 4th, 2006

We all know that the great Albus Dumbledore is dead, at the hands of Professor Severus Snape. But how much do we know about Harry’s relationship to Dumbledore? Is there, perhaps, more that Dumbledore hasn’t told Harry, that he may find out in Book 7? Despite Dumbledore’s attempts to pass on as much information to Harry as possible before his demise, there’s still a lot we don’t know. What is the truth behind Lily and James Potter’s relationship with Dumbledore (and why DD had James’ invisibility cloak after James was killed)? As much as we have come to trust and respect Dumbledore, there’s a sneaking suspicion that, perhaps, he hasn’t been completely honest with Harry (although possibly for Harry’s own good). What’s the deal? Listen in to Episode 3!A roundup of the news:

And, of course, lots of pictures from Book 5, The Movie.
